Extended solution into voice mediation

Designed and executed, with the core product team members, a focused program that extended the mobile data mediation product to support tier 1 carrier voice network requirements. 

With the market failure of mobile data networks, the drivers to deploy mobile data mediation dried up too.  Most carriers found themselves with huge losses.  However, the deployments of mobile data network switches continued, but with long term profit expectations.  Voice revenues would remain most significant and so all mediation suppliers were expected to provide voice mediation and a strategy for convergence allowing the operators to reduce operational and license costs. 

Voice switches are typically proprietary and interfacing to them is costly and situation specific.  Voice revenues are very large and the mediation is time critical to limit fraud.  

HP's traditional partnership with mobile voice mediation vendors limited the opportunity for HP Internet Usage Manager (IUM) to participate.   However, when customers came to HP complaining that a major vendor and HP partner was no longer credible there was an opportunity to extend the product to be mobile voice/data convergent. 

I started a program to implement a focused voice mediation solution.  Main aspects were:
  • Investigated the requirements in depth with our consulting channel that already deployed various partner's products
  • Studied secondary market data on voice mediation & billing markets
  • Agreed a position that limited the risk of HP field contracting to deploy into a highly proprietary network where we did not have current support of the switches. 
  • Defined a two stage development plan that would enable rapid support of voice mediation and allow major changes to the architecture to be made. 
  • Agreed the base feature set with the solution architects. 
  • Produced the sales development content. 
  • Produced the product messaging content.  
  • Defined and agreed the pricing.  
I coordinated the value delivery system for deploying voice mediation through the HP consulting organization.  Main aspects were:
  • Setup iterative delivery system with channel, consultants, and customers. 
  • Coordinated responses to feedback from the consultants evaluating the product. 
  • Prioritized iterative feature implementations as these became better characterized. 
  • Worked with outbound marketing to create final product collateral. 
  • Reviewed solution cost model and pricing with consulting and business development. 
  • Released the first version of the converged solution. 


The extended product was delivered to the HP consulting organization who reviewed it with key customers who agreed to standardize on the solution. 

Tier one operators agreed to work closely with us to ensure the second release, would match their operational, uptime and scalability requirements.
